On the eve of Wednesday the 24th of May, we had our inaugural meeting to launch the branch at the offices of Lasrust Enterprises. Mr. Jurie Weideman opened the meeting by way of a brief overview and introduction to SAIMC and its objectives which mainly relates to supporting our Control & Instrumentation profession. We were fortunate to have some very high-profile stakeholders / role players from local industry represented at the event. The technology presentation was presented by Mr. Patrick Rowland, Control Systems Business Unit Manager from Phoenix Contact South Africa. The topic for the talk was Industrial Wireless Communications and dealt with topics such as frequency hopping and spectrum usage. History of “industrial communications” was also discussed along with applications and considerations. Overall the presentation was very well received and it makes a lot more sense of what to consider when facing applications that require “wireless communications” of an industrial nature. fact Liquid flow measurement up to 600 °C or 490 bar OPTISONIC 4400 – technology driven by KROHNE • Ultrasonic flowmeter for high temperature and high pressure liquids, e. g. in vacuum distillation, visbreaking or coker unit • HT version: 45…+600 °C, DN25…1000 • HP version: ≤490 bar, DN25…200 • Flow range 0,5…20 m/s, bi-directional • Communication options with NAMUR NE 107 diagnostics m/s As is the norm for SAIMC meetings we enjoyed some nice food and refreshments and caught up on some “networking”. Thank you kindly for everyone who made it possible and attended, we look forward to assisting the branch in growing. If you are interested to attend / present kindly contact author.
